Maurice C. "Maurie" Tyler, 91, passed away July 12, 2006 following a long illness. Maurie was born September 3, 1914, in Tabor, IA to Arthur and Nora Tyler. Maurie proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 49, a past member of VFW Post 401, and a long-time member of and usher at Central United Methodist Church. He was a life-long, professional barber, practicing his craft in Iowa and Albuquerque following his move here in 1951 with his family. Maurie semi-retired from the Star Barber Shop in 1979 but continued to provide his services to fellow veterans in the VA Hospital and those who were homebound. He also served several terms as President of his local Barber's Union. An avid golfer, he enjoyed the game well into his retirement and received awards for multiple holes-in-one. Maurie was preceded in death by his parents and Geneva, his wife of 57 years. He is survived by his second wife, Juanita "Sue" Tyler, and her daughter, Joy Martin of Albuquerque. He is also survived by sons, Trent and wife, Pam of Albuquerque and Blaine and his wife, Evelyn "Evy" of Portland, OR. Surviving grandchildren are S. Laurie McNeil-McDaniel and husband, Dillon of Sheffield, AL; Jessica McNeil-McGuire and husband, Rory of Albuquerque; Barbara Kochendorfer and husband, Jeremy of Cubatao, Sao Paulo, Brazil; Sarah Tyler and Trevor Tyler, both of Portland, OR; and Stefanie Stomp of Albuquerque. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at the VA Hospital, Willow Wood Assisted Living, and AmberCare Hospice for their gentle and compassionate care of our husband, father, and grandfather. Cremation and a private family Memorial Service have taken place. Interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Aspen Funeral Alternatives was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of cards and flowers, please make a contribution to a charity of your choice in Maurie's name.
