Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday July 28, 2006

Carl R. "Bob" Chamberlain, of Bosque Farms, went to be with the Lord on July 25, 2006, after a long illness. Bob was born in Los Angeles, CA on August 29, 1922. His parents, Charles and Beth Chamberlain; sister, Marjorie Long; and niece, Sharon Phelps preceded him in death. Bob will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Mary, of nearly 61 years; daughters, Janice Grieve of Belen, Carla Clayton and husband, Mark of Pahrump, NV; grandchildren, Marty Clayton and wife, Morgan of Bosque Farms and Marla Clayton of Las Vegas, NV; and great-granddaughters, Regan and Lauren of Bosque Farms. He is also survived by brother, Don Chamberlain and wife, Lucille of Laton, CA; nieces, Kathy Taylor and husband, Milton, Kathy Rohde, Louise Knight, and Rhonda Enright and husband, Pat; nephew, Dennis Chamberlain and wife, Mary Ann; and other family members and numerous friends. Bob was well known for his sense of humor, his love of telling stories, his patriotism, and his faith in God. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. Throughout the 1940s, Bob and his family ran cattle in the Sierra National Forest of California; Chamberlain Lake was named for him and his family. After selling the ranch in 1949, Bob and his family moved to Riverdale, CA where he started in the dairy business. They moved to Bosque Farms in 1959 where he continued in the dairy business until 1971. He became the volunteer Fire Chief of Bosque Farms in 1964, a position he held for ten years. After retiring from the dairy business, he and Mary built Chamberlain's Pool; he also became Captain of the Citizen's Patrol (a volunteer citizen's group he helped organize that gave their time and resources to help provide security for the Bosque Farms area). In 1974 Bob was instrumental in the incorporation of Bosque Farms and became the first Chief of Police, working diligently without pay for the first six months; he retired from that position in December 1984. Bob was a great hunter, and enjoyed fishing the lakes of New Mexico, and ocean fishing with his family and friends at Crescent City, CA and in Alaska. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Bosque Farms on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens Thursday, July 27, 2006. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's name to VistaCare Hospice Foundation; 5639 Jefferson St. NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87109, or to Heritage Hospice, 1700 Louisiana NE, 3rd Floor, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
