Obituary for ZADROGA

Chester S. Zadroga, 60, of Santa Fe, passed away unexpectedly on June 28, 2006. He was employed by the State of New Mexico as a Manager in the Office of Client Services within the Information Systems Division of the General Services Department for the past five years. He is survived by his partner of twenty-eight years, James Sowa; his mother, Violet Zadroga; sister, Diane Taterka; nephew, Michael Taterka; cousins, Ann (Tony) Beltran and Michael Gilyeart. He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Sr.; his aunt and uncle, Mil and Chuck Kriz; and his grandparents. Chester was born in Chicago, IL on September 18, 1945. He graduated from Steinmetz High School in 1963 and from Loyola University in Chicago in 1967 with a B.S. in Business Administration. After college his career began at Sears Roebuck where he discovered the world of computer technology as an intern computer programmer. He entered the Army in 1967 and served in Saigon, Vietnam for over two years. After his discharge he returned to work in the field of computers and information technology and enjoyed a long and successful career. He worked in a variety of industries including retail, financial services, manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, and government. His career led him from Chicago to Greenville, SC; Atlanta, GA and Lafayette, IN. In 2001 he was hired by the State of New Mexico and relocated to Santa Fe. Chester was a key leader in the design and implementation of the State of New Mexico's multi-million dollar Enterprise Resource Planning system known as the "SHARE Project." His work in the State's payroll and human resources area was a source of great satisfaction to him. He enjoyed the many people with whom he interacted and felt that he had finally found his home in this city of historical, cultural and scenic richness. Chester's passing leaves his family, co-workers and many dear friends around the country enriched for having known him and heartbroken to have him gone so quickly and unexpectedly from their lives. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 208 Grant Ave., Santa Fe. Burial will take place in Chicago at a later date.
