Obituary for PITKOFSKY

Hyman "Hy" Pitkofsky, age 79, of Rio Rancho, died Sunday, July 2, 2006. Born in New York City, Hy was raised in Brooklyn, where he joined the Merchant Marines when he was 17 1/2. He served from the end of WWII into the time of the Korean War. He then enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 where he served 8 1/2 years. He retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wood, WI in 1989. He and his wife, Judith, retired to Rio Rancho at that time. Hy was the immediate past-president of the Roadrunner Chapter of the American Merchant Marine Veterans and a member of the Air Force Association, Civil Air Patrol, American Legion, and Fred Bernstein Post 203 Jewish War Veterans. He was also a member of Congregation B'nai Israel. Hy is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judith; sons, Charles, Maurice and his wife, Evelyn; grandchildren, Evan Schmidt, Joshua, Jacob, Andrew, Sasha Pitkofsky; one brother, Philip Pitkofsky. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Stolz in 1999. Funeral Services will be conducted by Rabbi Arthur Flicker, Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Vista Verde Memorial Park Chapel, 4310 Sara Rd. SE.
