Obituary for KIERSTEAD

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday June 09, 2006

Lorena M. Kierstead, (nee RINGSHALL) beloved wife, mother, Nana, sister, friend, died peacefully at home on May 22, 2006, with family members at hand. Lorena was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer one year ago at MD Anderson in Houston, TX. Upon returning home, she immediately began receiving both radiation and chemo-therapies at NM Cancer Center in Albuquerque. Her family wishes to acknowledge the superb professional care she received by Dr. Haskins and staff at NMCC and her care providers with Presbyterian Hospice during a very debilitative and demanding year. Lorena and family were fully aware of the serious ramifications of her illness, yet she battled stoically through her many challenges, quite resigned to her formidable prognosis. Lorena was born April 25, 1935, in New Malden, Surrey, England. Lorena is survived by and will be sorely missed by her adoring husband of 51 years, Thom; her three children, Chandra and husband, Michael Bales, Roy and wife, Gretchen and their son, Gavin, and Sheryn and husband, Sam Lockwood and children, Shayna, Sam, and Moriah; brother, Alan Ringshall and family; and sisters, Heather Tate and family and Sharon Jacobs and family. Lorena's joy in life centered around her family. She was truly an exemplary wife, mother, and Nana. She was truly an uncommonly pleasant, guileless, helpful, and talented woman, giving generously of her assistance, time and efforts at every opportunity. Throughout her life, she influenced a huge array of family, friends and acquaintances. Lorena was active in quilting, crocheting, knitting, target shooting, joining Thom on motorcycle rides, and encouraging and supporting her extended family whenever needed. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Christian Fellowship, 11104 Menaul Blvd. NE, in Albuquerque, with an on-site luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Presbyterian Hospice, 8400 Constitution Place NE, Suite 400, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Sunrise Funeral Options 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE Albuquerque, NM 87109 (505) 821-0010
