Obituary for DURAN

Joe N. Duran, age 79, was born and raised in Wagonmound, NM. He came to Veguita, NM in September of 1999 where he was cared for by his niece, Angela and her husband, Joe Martinez. Joe was a happy-go-lucky, fun loving person who enjoyed playing sports such as basketball and playing the piano in his younger days. He served in the Armed Forces and fought for his country in the Korean War. Through the years he maintained his jovial and cheerful attitude. The last several years were spent doing many activities and going on outings with the family. Uncle Joe always enjoyed his visits to Wagonmound, where he was known as "Chino", especially during an annual Bean Day. His last visit was in 2005 during the celebration where he was greeted by many friends which he remembered and was very glad to see. The Lord took our Uncle Joe to be with him on Tuesday, May 23, 2006. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Eva Rael and Juan Isidro Duran. He is survived by 14 nieces and nephews and their families which include: Angela Martinez of Veguita, NM; Pearl Bransford of Santa Fe, NM; Herman Duran of Santa Fe, NM; Michael Duran of CO; Clifford Duran of CO; Ramona Cole of Santa Fe, NM; Rudy Duran of San Diego, CA; John "Bobo" Duran of CA; Yolanda Roybal of Santa Fe, NM; Christine Montoya of Santa Fe, NM; Bernice Montoya of Albuquerque , NM; John Montoya of Albuquerque, NM; Robert Montoya of Albuquerque, NM; and Teresa Duran of CO. Visitation for friends and family will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2006 from 7:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas with a Rosary to follow. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 2, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at San Clemente Parish in Los Lunas. Interment with military honors will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be David Martinez, Aaron Davis, Nathaniel Martinez, Lynda Romero, Marc Romero, and Richard Martinez In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made for the family at the State Employees Credit Union or First Community Bank. Arrangements are being handled by Riverside Funeral Home of Belen, 418 W.
