Esther K. Stevens, 96, a resident of Albuquerque, NM for the past 25 years, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2006, at Kaseman Presbyterian Hospice Unit. Ms. Stevens was born on January 10, 1910 to Charles and Rose Engel of Plato Center, IL. Esther and her husband, Lloyd E. Stevens, retired from Civilian Service at the Panama Canal Zone in 1966. She loved playing cards, liked to travel, and loved watching the hot air balloons, especially the Special Shapes. She would, also, stay abreast of current events and politics. Ms. Stevens was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; a grandson; and four brothers. She is survived by her sons, Rene Eineke and companion, Mary, of DeKalb, IL, and Charles Johnson and his wife, Becky, of Woodland, WA; a daughter, Carol Wagner and her husband, Bruce, of Albuquerque, NM; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. An Open House and Memorial will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2006 at the Phoenix Square Apartments Club Room.
