Obituary for JOHNSON

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday May 11, 2006

Chester "Chet" Johnson, 76, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2006, after fighting the good fight. Dylan Thomas would have been proud. A long-time resident of the Albuquerque, Chet was born in Lincoln, NE, Thursday, August 29, 1929. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Anne, of Placitas, NM; son, Craig, of Bernalillo, NM; daughter, Heidi, and son-in-law, Joe Lindvay, of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren, Brodie, Jordan, Savannah, and Riley; cousin, Gary and wife, Dee Johnson, of Lincoln, NE; aunts, Dorothy and Wilma Hurst, of St. Joseph, MO; brother-in-law, Barry, and sister-in-law, Susie Torgerson, of Challis, ID; niece, Devon Lema; and nephew, William "Bill" Torgerson, of Carson City, NV. He was preceded in death by his mother, Blanche; and his father, Chester, of Dorchester, NE; and the late, great Trans World Airlines. Chet's sense of humor was known to induce severe eye rolling among anyone under the age of twenty-five. His grandchildren suffered the brunt of his humor. He was amused by people that take themselves too seriously, and, as the world is peopled by many such folk, he was generally in high spirits. Chet was an avid amateur engineer and a master of repair using such tools as the kitchen knife and the common shoe. He was a die-hard Huskers fan. Go Big Red. He loved all of the staff at the Range Cafe in Bernalillo, where he enjoyed his huevos rancheros. He loved traveling around the world with Anne. Any day was a good day for skiing according to Chet. He was a pilot who flew for the U.S. Air Force, Air America in Indochina, and TWA, from which he retired in 1989. He will be dearly missed. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Vista Care Hospice, Albuquerque, NM. Memorial Service details are pending. French Mortuary, Inc. 7121 Wyoming Blvd., NE (505) 823-9400
