Obituary for LITWIN

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday May 07, 2006

Valerie Mavis. It was meant to be...Valerie Mavis Litwin, age 80, joined her beloved husband John Anthony Litwin on Thursday, May 4, 2006. She was born in Sydney, Australia on January, 6, 1926, one of seven children. She met and married her "Yank," an Air Force Sergeant in 1944 and came to America on a war bride ship in 1946. Shortly after the birth of her first of four daughters, Valerie became an American citizen. She spent the next 20 years following her husband throughout the world, sometimes traveling alone with her young daughters and to this day, never driving a car. In her travels, she faced the challenges of typhoons, earthquakes, tornados, snails the size of your hand in Okinawa and a runaway trolley car in San Francisco. Valerie touched the lives of many people along the way. She always listened with an open heart, never judged and always said, "If it is meant to be, it is meant to be." Our mother, grandmother and friend may have had to leave us, but has left us her values; compassion, kindness, tolerance, love, understanding and most of all, humor. Valerie is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Charlene Hart, Donna and Mike Cross, Marilyn Crover, and Leslee and Paul McKinney; her grandchildren, Andrea Blume and David Wright, Stephen and Debbie Blume, Deanna and John Wall, Lauren McKinney, Jennifer Crover and Garry Wicka, Shannon McKinney and Joanna McKinney; great grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Cassidy and Caitlyn; sister, Yvonne Milton; brother-in-law, Frank Haynes; numerous nieces; nephews; great nieces; and great nephews all of Australia. Many loving friends who brightened her days include Jane, Brigid, Donna and Mable. Graveside services to be held on Monday, May 8, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Services to be officiated by son-in-law Paul McKinney. Arrangements by Sunrise Funeral Options West 891-9192
