Obituary for HAMNER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday April 16, 2006

Jay Hamner, a native of Albuquerque, died Sunday March 12, 2006. He was a graduate of the University of New Mexico and was an elementary teacher at many Albuquerque Schools. Jay leaves behind his best friend and traveling companion, for over sixteen years, Don Donadio and Don's sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Jim Busse with whom many happy holidays and dinners were enjoyed. Jay and Don were seen from coast to coast at museums, galleries and many entertainment venues, attending dozens of performances at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, Jay's favorite theater, the New York City Ballet, the New York City Opera, the perennial Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, many Broadway musicals and plays, the Santa Fe Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Dallas Opera, the Los Angeles Opera and for sixteen straight seasons at the Central City Opera house in Central City Colorado where they would manage to see three operas every July. Their many mutual friends would like to say thank you for all the kind words, letters and cards sent on this sad occasion. Jay's sweetness, sensitivity, gentleness and devotion were truly unique and will never be forgotten. Jay will be greatly missed by all of us. Contributions in Jay's name may be sent to The Animal Humane Society of New Mexico, 615 Virginia SE, Albuquerque NM 87108.
