Obituary for DOSTAL

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday April 16, 2006

Lois Jean Danford Dostal died in Albuquerque, NM on 4 April 2006. Born 7 August, 1931 in Chicago, IL. She followed her sister, Phyllis, attending public schools in Chicago and graduated from Schurz high school. She continued formal education at Coe College in Iowa that culminated in a BA degree in elementary school education in June 1952 graduating in just three years. Married in 1952 to George "Dusty" Dostal, a Coe classmate, she immediately became part of the Air Force family when George was called to active duty. The Air Force family was a happy part of her life for the next 25 years during which she taught first graders and became the mother and taskmaster to three sons, Steve, Casey and John, who with their families, all presently reside in California. Lois, after retirement from the Air Force family, found interest in income tax preparation and medicine. She was a tax preparer and tax instructor for many years with Tax Counseling for the Elderly. She pursued medicine by attending Nurse's Training at Antelope Valley College and became a Registered Critical Care Nurse. Graduation coincided with her 50th birthday. Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center, Critical Care Unit, became her place to practice her skills for more than ten years. Retiring from nursing brought her back to New Mexico and Albuquerque in 1989. She was a very savvy lady who was computer literate, loved crossword puzzles, tax trivia, sudoku puzzles, golf, bridge, and flying trips to various reunions with her husband. She enjoyed her four granddaughters, particularly the interaction with them during their most formative years. She imparted a creed to those that knew her, that success was the result of hard personal work and was a practicing example of that creed. Special thanks to the staff of VistaCare Hospice that provided what comforts they could for Lois and the family. Memorial contributions should be directed to VistaCare Hospice Foundation, 5639 Jefferson St. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109 or UNM Foundation, Cancer Research, Bldg 2, Suite 203 Albuquerque, NM 87102.
