Obituary for GREEN

James W. "Jim" Green, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1983, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006. He is survived by his sister, Cora Green of Brooks Crossroad, NC; sons, James Green of Rio Rancho and Richard Green and wife, Linda of Red River. Mr. Green was preceded in death by his wife, Vercie L. Green. He served in the US Marines during World War II. Mr. Green attended the University of Oklahoma, where he received two degrees. He taught in the Hobbs Municipal Schools from 1949-1956. Mr. Green served as Field Consultant for the NM Educational Budget Auditor, was Chief, Public School Finance Division, Executive Secretary of New Mexico-National Education Association and spent many years as Manager of the Lobbying Section of the National Education Association in Washington, DC. He retired from the NEA in 1984. Upon retirement Jim was a volunteer for AARP, serving as State Legislative Chairperson and as a member of the National Legislative Committee. Per US News & World Report, he was the one person most responsible for creating the US Department of Education. Mr. Green was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, where he served many years as Teacher of the Friendly Bible Class. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at 10:00 a.m., at Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper NE, with Rev. Molly Shannon officiating.
