Obituary for SMITH

Alan J. Smith, age 47, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, passed away on April 1, 2006. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome, a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, and a general contractor. Alan was co-owner of Sunlite Homes along with his partner, Eric Sanchez. Previously he worked as a project manager and director of operations for home builders. He had a tremendous passion for building homes and will be deeply missed by the building community. When Alan wasn't working he could be found playing golf, which he loved. Alan was known most for his positive outlook on life and his love for God. He always said to his family, "Everything I do and everything I live for is my wife and kids, Tammy and Alan." Alan is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Debbie; son, Alan "A.J."; daughter, Tammy Smith Nunez and husband, John Paul; father, Willie "Sonny" Baca; mother, Sylvia Baca; sister, Annette Shaw and husband, Sam; nephew, Scott Shaw; mother-in-law, Helen Pena; special aunt, Mae Gonzales; special goddaughter, Dawnielle Gonzales; his business partner, Eric Sanchez; special friend, John Hardin; and very special cousins, Eugene Gonzales and Ted Gonzales; and many, many more family and friends. Services will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome beginning with a viewing on Thursday, April 6, 2006 from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A final visitation will take place on Friday, April 7, 2006 from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Tome Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eugene Gonzales, Ted Gonzales, Nolbert Romero, Manny Avila, James Garcia, Eric Sanchez, John Melek, and John Hardin. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Paul Nunez, Eloy Arteaga, Lawrence Nieto, Sonny Gonzales, Gilbert Gonzales, Abie Gonzales, Bennie Gonzales, Jerry Garcia, Clinton Tabet, Gerard Sanchez, Fermin Chavez, Doug Duquette, Gerald Lucero, and Kevin Griffith. A reception will take place at Tierra Del Sol Country Club in Rio Communities following the Service at 12:30 p.m. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St., Belen.
