Obituary for ROMERO

Venceslado "Ben"/"Perea" Romero, age 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, passed away at his home with his loving family at his side. He married Jennie Griego on June 6, 1947 in their hometown, Tucumcari, NM. She was a devoted wife of 47 years until her passing in 1994. They were both parishioners of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. Ben proudly served his country in World War II, the Korean War and was a member of both the VFW and American Legion Post 99 for many years. After the war he owned and operated "Ben's Barber Shop" in Tucumcari and "Ben's Carpet Service" in Albuquerque. He was an accomplished fisherman and an avid hunter and was well known as "Catfish Ben" at Bluewater Lake in western New Mexico. His most admirable quality was making new friends everywhere he went. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Zia Hospice for the loving care given to their father and to all the family. He will always be loved, remembered and missed by all who knew him. Ben is survived by his five children: Barbara Olson and husband, Bruce, Robert Romero and wife, Linda, JoAnn Romero and boyfriend, Ernest Segura, Anna Romero, Peter Romero and wife, Debbie; brother and sister, Jose Romero and wife, Susie, Pauline Pacheco and husband, Anthony; grandchildren, Dominic, Natalie, and Sara Olson; Christopher and Justin Romero; Vicente and Cecilia Gonzales; Peter, Rory and wife, Samantha, and Monique Romero; great-grandchildren, Venceslado Romero and Garrett Romero. A Rosary will be recited at Salazar & Sons Mortuary on Thursday, March 23, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March, 24, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption.
