Obituary for TRIGG

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday March 19, 2006

Billie M. Trigg passed away in Albuquerque on Friday, March 10, 2006. She was born to Ray E. and Ressie Roundtree McCarley on April 28, 1919 in Clayton, NM. Her life was defined by love of, and great talents in art and literature, but most especially in music. She was a child prodigy in piano, playing on the radio and for the local Rotary club. She fondly remembered traveling from small-town Clayton to the big city of Denver when she was six to play at the Rotary International Convention. As a student at the University of New Mexico, she was the "girl singer" with a dance band; and as a young wife and mother, directed the church choir at Immanuel on the Hill at the Episcopal Virginia Theological Seminary. Throughout her life she was an enthusiast and supporter of the arts, including the Santa Fe Opera and New Mexico Symphony. She treasured the friendships and intellectual environment gained as a member of the historic Tuesday Literary Club, as well as the special bonds with the charming ladies of Le Cadeaux. She married Ralph S. Trigg in 1940 and soon moved to Washington, D.C. where Mr. Trigg worked in the Truman Administration. Billie modestly recalled to her family the excitement of "dancing at the White House" and of knowing interesting people and political wives through her membership in the National Democratic Women's Club. In 1953, when the Triggs returned to Albuquerque to stay, she immersed herself in raising her family, becoming a gifted seamstress and needle pointer. She supported her community in many ways including service as president of St. Margaret's Guild and the PTA. She was active at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral and especially loved her years volunteering in the church gift shop where she helped patrons find the perfect item or wonderful object d' art. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979. She is survived by her two children, Ralph S. Trigg Jr. and wife, Gwenna of Albuquerque, and Nancy T. Conrow and husband, Doug of Park City, UT. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Matthew Trigg and wife, Hope of Houston, TX; Scott Trigg and wife, Adrienne of Austin, TX; Kara Kochenderfer and husband, Mace of Albuquerque; and Kate Conrow of Park City, UT; and great-grandchildren Tayler Rose Trigg, Emma Kochenderfer, and Oliver Kochenderfer. The family wishes to thank Elsie Solis for many years of loving care; Manuel Munoz for contributing care to the garden she enjoyed so much; and the staff of Montebello for their help and support in her final month. Services were held Friday, March 17, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at The Cathedral Church of St. John, 318 Silver SW. Internment followed at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembering her through the St. John's Memorial Fund. Billie appreciated beauty in all things and worked to create and share generously with her family and friends. A small framed calligraphy in her bedroom expressed her essence, "Do Everything With Love." Services are under the care and direction of: Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Avenue SE
