Obituary for MONTOYA

Miguel "Mike" Montoya, a native of Albuquerque, NM since his birth on October 4, 1925, in Martinez town, Santa Barbara area. Mike proudly served as a crew captain on the USS Makin Island, a carrier battleship, during World War II. At 18 years of age and at the prime of his life, he left his wife Cuca and his two boys Moises and Louie to protect his country. Our beloved father passed peacefully in his sleep at home on March 14, 2006. Mike went home to be with the Lord and his wife Refugia "Cuca", along with his parents Demetrio and Elijia Montoya, his brother Manuel Montoya and his sister and brother in law Chela and Frank Maestas and brother in laws Max Casados and Galo Garcia; his sons Michael and Demetrio will be waiting with open arms. Mike's loving, caring and cheerful personality will be missed by his surviving children, his sons ,Moises and Nora Montoya,; their children and Mikes grandchildren Melissa and Justus Durkee, Tiffany and Ryan McGrady, Bennett Montoya and Tony Montoya, all of California; Louie and Helen Montoya, of Albuquerque, NM, their children and Mikes grandchildren, Terry and Melissa Montoya, of Phoenix, AZ; their children and Mikes great-grandchildren Alyssa and Cy Montoya, Timothy and Janice Montoya of Albuquerque; their children and Mikes great grandchildren Timothy, Joshua, and Ariana; Teddy Montoya and Debbie Gomez of Albuquerque, NM; their children and Mikes great grandchildren Marcus, A.J. and Thomas; Leroy and Linda Montoya of Albuquerque, NM, their children and Mikes grandchildren, Nikka Montoya, Ambrose and Michelle Montoya; their children and Mike's great grandchildren, Gabriel, Adrian, and Isaac all of Albuquerque, NM, Ambrose is a special grandson as he was raised by Mike and his wife, Cuca all his life; Mikes surviving daughters Dorella and Lowell Foletta of Scottsdale, AZ, their children and Mikes grandchildren, Nadine and Jimmy Alauria, Michael Foletta and Nicole Foletta, and youngest daughter and loving caretaker JoAnna Montoya of Albuquerque, NM. Mike will be missed by his brother and sisters, Bennie Casados, Dolly Garcia, Loretta and Amadeo Carter, Diane and Leo Sprunk, brother Larry Montoya, and sister in laws Sylvia Montoya and Anita Barreras; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be all grandsons Ambrose Montoya, Terrance Montoya, Timothy Montoya, Teddy Montoya, Michael Foletta, and Bennett Montoya. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony, Gabriel, Adrian, Isaac, Cy, Timothy, Joshua, Marcus, A.J., and Thomas. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, March 19, 2006 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church at 4:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 20, 2006, at 9:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary as well.
