Obituary for BUCKALEW

William H. "Bill" Buckalew Sr., 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1951 died unexpectedly Thursday, March 16, 2006 as the result of complications with cancer. He is survived by his children, Linda Walker and husband, Chuck, Hardy Buckalew and wife, Julie, and Bob Buckalew, all of Albuquerque and Bill Buckalew Jr. and wife, Harriett of Benicia, CA; two grandchildren, Tina Wall and husband, Chris, and Melissa Walker and husband, Sam Pulvers; brother, Seaborn Buckalew and wife, Marcy of Anchorage, AK; and aunt, Annie Mungovan of Houston, TX. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Fran Buckalew, on October 25, 2002. He was born on August 24, 1923 in Dallas, Texas. Bill was proud of his honorable service in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII as a test pilot. He attended Texas A&M and graduated from LSU with a degree in Nuclear Physics. It was there that he met his beloved wife. They moved to Albuquerque where he worked at Sandia Labs for 40 years until his retirement. During his career he authored several technical journals about reactor safety. After his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his rose gardens, and bird watching. Bill had a voracious desire for knowledge spending much time reading. He was a beloved dad, devoted grandpop, and a friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service has been held. His cremated remains will be scattered in the mountains with those of his wife.
