Obituary for SAGER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday March 03, 2006

Norma Sichler Sager (Mimi), born September 14, 1925, died peacefully on February 28, 2006 in Durango, Colorado where she had resided with her daughter Barbara Sager since 2003. She grew up in Los Lunas, New Mexico and traveled the world with her late husband, William F. Sager, Jr. and retired in Los Lunas in 1986. She enjoyed a successful career as a banker, but what she loved most was caring for her family and others. As a Red Cross volunteer in Hawaii in the 1960's, she spent many hours aboard military aircraft comforting wounded Vietnam war troops as they prepared for the last leg of their journey to the Mainland. Even with all her travels, her heart remained in New Mexico with its blue skies, and spectacular mountains. She had wit, great humor, and great strength. We remember a full life; a long life; an example of kindness and softness that inspires us and strengthens us. She was, and remains, our hero. She is survived by a sister, Lillian Pilon, of Michigan; a brother, Jack Sichler of Los Lunas, New Mexico; daughters, Sharon Taylor of Kansas City , MO, Barbara Sager of Durango, CO, Terry Shuck of Seattle, WA; son, William Sager, III of New York, and an "adopted" son, John Shuhmacher, of San Antonio, TX; granddaughters Kristen Astor of Washington, DC, Jelaina Sager, of Durango, CO; grandson, Brett Astor, of Boulder, CO, and son-in-laws William Taylor and Thomas Shuck, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. A Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 4th, 2006 at Hood Mortuary, 1261 East Third Avenue, Durango, CO 81302.
