Katie Lee Howell, 94, peacefully went home to her Lord on Tuesday, February 28, 2006. She was born in Walters, OK on December 16, 1911 to Neal and Molly Sowell. Katie was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Leonard Howell in 2001; her son, Neil Howell in 1971 and her grandson, Joel Eric Denson in 1989. She is survived by her daughters, Lona Marsh and Carole Tindell and husband, Gene; daughter-in-law, Dorthia Howell; grandchildren, Shannon and John Denson, Tawnya Pope, Yvette Hopperstead, Monette Sedberry, Colette Plantz, Leonard Howell, Bret and Darren Popp, Lisa Mahigion and 23 great grandchildren. Katie and Leonard were high school sweethearts in Weed, NM prior to their marriage in September, 1933. They raised their three children primarily in Artesia and Estancia, NM where they owned farms and Katie was a homemaker. Katie's life was centered around her church and family. She was a devout Christian and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed by all who knew her and will live on in our hearts. Services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2006, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Interment will follow at the Estancia Cemetery in Estancia, NM. Pallbearers will be Shannon Denson, John Denson, Leonard Howell, James Hopperstead , Mason Popp, Bret Popp, Darren Popp and Jeffrey Mahigian.
