Obituary for GONZALES

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday March 03, 2006

Inecita "Inez" Gonzales, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, March 1, 2006. She would have been 100 on May thirteenth. She and her late husband, Eduardo Gonzales, reared nine children in and around the village of Fort Sumner, NM. Inez was a true native New Mexican who was born in New Mexico Territory in 1906 in a place called "El Tigere" near the village of Fort Sumner. A devout Catholic, she prayed her oraciones and novenas daily for the greater part of her life. She was a member of the Shrine of St. Bernadette. She will be dearly missed by her family and her friends who got to know this wonderful lady throughout the course of her long life. She could make her husband and seven sons a top notch shirt using her old peddle sewing machine. Her delicious New Mexico dishes were prepared without a written recipe. Oracio, her adventuresome cowboy son, would often say that "Shoot, "Mama" was making yogurt before it became popular. Nobody could make better tasting caramelo [custard caramel] pies than her." Adelina, her eldest says: "'Mama' had a genuine green thumb. That lady could grow anything. She could cook, she could sew, play the piano and guitar, and drive a team of horses as well as anyone." The Family and friends will never forget that wonderful and cheerful lady. Friends called her Inez; all her children called her 'Mama'". Inecita was preceded in death by baby, Brunilda, her loving husband, "Don" Eduardo "Ed" Gonzales a former rancher from Ft. Sumner, NM; loving daughter, Dulcinea "Lucy" Gonzales; loving sons, Oracio "Ralph" Gonzales from Battle Mountain, NV, and Roy Gonzales formerly of Bernalillo, NM. Inecita is survived by one daughter, Adelina Cordova of Albuquerque; five sons, Eddie Gonzales and wife, Irene of Phoenix, AZ, Morris Gonzales and wife, Katy of Albuquerque, Bevian Gonzales of Queen's Creek, AZ, Lee Richard Gonzales and wife, Linda of Albuquerque, and Steve "Gilbert" Gonzales of Bernalillo; daughter-in-law, Emma Gonzales of Bernalillo; plus many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.
