Obituary for DEWEY

Allen C. Dewey, Jr., 72, an attorney in Albuquerque, NM, for 43 years, died after a long illness on February 26, 2006, in Sequim, WA, where he and his wife Shirley have lived since retiring in 2001. Born in Kohler, WI, on July 27, 1933, he received his undergraduate degree from Wabash College in 1955. He graduated first in his class from the University of Michigan Law School, having served as a member of the Order of the Coif and as an editor of the Michigan Law Review. Dewey was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa honorary fraternity and the Albuquerque, NM and American Bar Associations. Dewey's entire legal career was with the Modrall Sperling law firm where he served as managing partner and member of their executive committee. He held the highest ratings awarded in the legal field and was listed in "The Best Lawyers in America." He was a director of Sunwest Bank of Albuquerque and served on the bank's executive committee. For more than 20 years, he was an active member of the American Law Institute. He also served as chairman of the New Mexico Board of Bar Examiners. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Mae Dewey of Sheboygan, WI, and his sister, Patricia Heinz. He is survived by his wife, Shirle; and their children: Ted Dewey and Dan Downs of Eugene, OR; Dr. Lisa and Fred Brown and children, Gareth and Derek, of Whittier, CA; Chris and Naomi Stanley and their children, Chandler and Allison of Seattle, WA; and Jennifer and Jeff Ruddock and their child, Riley of Dallas, TX. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2006, at 2 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 525 North Fifth Avenue, Sequim, WA with Fr. Robert Rhoads officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in Dewey's name.
