Obituary for ROMERO

Maria Salazar Romero passed away peacefully Monday, February 20, 2006 surrounded by her family. Maria was born in Chamita, NM on August 31, 1916 and later moved to Cebolla, NM, until 1934 when she moved to Santa Fe and married the late Roman Romero; they raised their family in Santa Fe. They moved to Albuquerque in October, 1963, where they both lived out the remainder of their lives. Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Roman Romero in September 1985; daughters, Cordelia, Lorraine Romero Lucero and husband, Rubel; her brothers, Anastacio Salazar, Benjamin Salazar, Fermin Salazar, and Jose Hernando Salazar; sister, Corina Salazar Tapia; grandsons, Anthony Romero and Gilbert Lee Romero; brothers-in-law, Fermin Romero and Gilbert Max Romero; sisters-in-law, Aurora Romero CeDeBaca and Josefa Romero Halligan. Maria has one surviving sister, Sophia Salazar Olivas of Denver, CO. She had nine children, four girls, and five boys; she is survived by her children, Isaac Romero and wife, Marcy of Santa Fe, Pat Romero and wife, Rosina of Las Vegas, Eloy Romero and wife, Helen of Espanola, Sylvia Fox and husband, Richard, Annabelle Valdez and husband, Vince, John Romero and wife, Anna, Gilbert Romero and wife, Monica, all of Albuquerque. In addition to her surviving children, she has 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Maria is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Maria Salazar and Josepha Salazar, both of Denver, CO, Betty Salazar of Salt Lake City, UT, Corina Marie Romero Crochetierre of Hudson, NH., MA, Lourdes Romero of Santa Fe, NM, Teodora Romero Bertron and husband, Walt of Campbelle, CA; brothers-in-law, Filemon Tapia of Santa Fe, NM, Anthony Merced Romero and his wife, Josephine of Pena Blanca, NM. Services will be held at San Jose Catholic Church, 2401 Broadway Blvd. SE. MaryAnn Arthur will lead with music and Roy Rivera will recite the Rosary on Thursday, February 23, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Robert Stannion on Friday, February 24, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith NE. Pallbearers will be Isaac T. Romero, Ed Romero, Phil Romero, Patrick Romero, Lawrence Romero, Charles Romero, Roman Romero, and Miles Fox.
