Suzanne Jane McNeill Stokes Larsen was called to be with her Lord, Jesus, on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at 3:32 p.m. MST. She leaves behind her daughter, Janet L. Harrington, Albuquerque, NM and son, Earl Charles Larsen and wife, Barbara of Indianapolis, IN; six grandchildren, James E. Kaiser and wife, Margaret of Louisville, KY, Charles R. Kaiser and wife, Kimberley, Aurora, Canada, William T. Harrington, III, Albuquerque, NM, Christopher L. Harrington, San Antonio, TX, Amber L. Backhaus and husband, Christopher, Minneapolis, MN and L. Philip Larsen and wife, Elizabeth of Rochester, MN; two great-grandchildren, Kasey C. Kaiser and Callie S. Kaiser, Louisville, KY. Suzanne was born in Indianapolis, IN, January 26, 1918, to Dr. Charles A. and Marjorie H. McNeill. After the passing of her father, she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Joseph Stokes. She graduated Tudor Hall School (now Park-Tudor School) in 1936. Suzanne married Earl I. Larsen, who preceded her in death in 1991, in September 1936. While a resident of Indianapolis, Suzanne was very active in the Junior League, Christamore Aid Society, Blue Flower Garden Club, the Children's Museum Guild and served as a docent at The John Herron Art Museum. She and her husband were active at Woodstock Club and The Players. As an avid gardener, Suzanne enjoyed working in her special "natural" gardens at her Indianapolis residence, her rustic cabin south of Mooresville and in her bromeliad garden in Sarasota. Suzanne enjoyed cooking and everyone especially loved her significant desserts ranging from simple pies to her famous Dobas Torte (a 10-layer cake of chocolate decadence). Her extended family always looked forward to her Christmas Goodies box of cookies, tarts and "secret recipe" sugared pecans. A voracious reader, you would always find Suzanne carrying her book bag filled with several library books and her Bible, a constant companion for inspiration. While residing in Sarasota, FL, Suzanne became active in the Allapatta Chapter of the DAR, Colonial Dames 17th Century, DAC, Sustainer Chairperson of the Junior League, the Bromeliad Society, Sarasota Orchid Club, Sara Bay Country Club and Sarasota Yacht Club. After moving to Albuquerque, Suzanne became President of the Albuquerque Anneke Jans Chapter, Colonial Dames 17th Century while still remaining active in the Charles Dibrell Chapter DAR and The Petroleum Club. She was a member of Calvary Chapel and was an integral part of the Silver Saints and Women's Bible Studies. A member of a small group of six ladies who have met for many years in each other's homes, she always testified of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She used every opportunity to bring Him into conversations especially with people who needed counsel. Never fearful of meeting death, she instead looked forward to being met by Jesus as He welcomed her into her heavenly home. A Memorial Celebration Service will be held on Friday, February 24, 2006, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. A Memorial Celebration Service is pending for Indianapolis in June or July. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to The Salvation Army, 4301 Bryn Mawr, Dr. NE, 87107, Joy Junction, 4500 2nd St. SW, 87105 or Global Adventures Missions at Calvary Chapel, 4001 Osuna Blvd. NE, 87109.
