Bernardo "Barney" Chavez Sr., 76, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2006 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born November 2, 1929 to Eduardo and Carlota (Trujeque) Chavez Sr. in San Marcial, NM. Barney was a resident of Socorro, NM and retired from the Socorro Electric Coop after 43 years of service. He is preceded in death by his wife, Diosinita "Josie" Jojola Chavez in 1998. He is survived by his sons: Elvires Chavez; Bernardo "Bernie" Chavez Jr. and fiance, Theresa Aragon; Raymond Chavez and wife, Isabel; Victor Chavez, all of Socorro; and Eduardo Chavez and wife, Carolyn of San Antonio, NM; Daughters: Mary C. Pargas and husband, Ernest; Bernice R. Vallejos and fiance, Elliott Iker; and Denise D. Herrera and husband, Flavio, all of Socorro; brothers: Mike Chavez and wife, Agatha; and Eduardo Chavez Jr. and wife, Gloria of Las Vegas, NV; sisters: Teodorita Pino and husband, Elfego of Socorro; and Erlinda Dyce and husband, Charles of Alamogordo, NM; a very special sister-in-law, Vivian Bourguignon of Corrales, NM; 23 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2006 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Steadman-Hall Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, February 12, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 13, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at San Miguel with Father John C. Daniel as Celebrant. Burial will be in the San Antonio, NM cemetery. Pallbearers are Ernest Pargas Jr., Phillip Chavez, Ryan Chavez, Raymond Chavez Jr., Frankie Montoya and Brandon Vallejos. Honorary Pallbearers are the rest of his grandchildren.
