Ernest Richard Lucero, 73, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2006. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Margaret who was the light of his life; sons, Larry Lucero and wife, Cristie; Rick Lucero and wife, Tamara, and Randy Lucero and wife, Keli; daughters, Joanne Buckmaster and husband, Steve, and Lisa Alford; step-sons, Steve Wallace, Jeff Wallace and wife, Nancy; step-daughters, Valerie Hammar and Deborah Wallace; grandchildren, Eric, Evan, Amanda, Kathryn and Levi Lucero, Michael and Kyle Breech, Jessica Buckmaster, Danielle and Victoria Alford, Lauren and Christine Wallace, Ben and Brent Hammar, Angela Koontz, Robin and Roberto Cotto; great-grandchildren, Monet Lucero, Brandon and Tyler Breech, Zachary and Eric Cotto. Ernie was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori; two sisters, Beatrice Torres, Aurelia Rey; and brother, Frank. He was born on June 19, 1932 in Albuquerque, NM. He was the fourth of four children born to Edward and Salome Lucero. Ernie served in the U.S. Navy for four years and was stationed in Guam and Astoria, OR. He retired from New Mexico State Employee Security Commission after 29 years. Ernie was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and was an usher there. He was also a member of American Legion, Post 49. Ernie was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved sports and was an avid softball and tennis player. He continued playing softball this past summer. The Lobos and Yankees were his passion. His attitude and determination during his illness is a testament to the human spirit and was an inspiration to those close to him. Ernie will be greatly missed by his family members and his many friends and companions. A Rosary will be recited Friday, February 3, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE with Deacon Charles Martinez reciting. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 4, 2006, 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg Lucero, Steven Geis, Mike Torres, Eric Lucero, Michael Breech, and Jeffrey Wallace. Friends may visit at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel on Friday, February 3, 2006 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 10501 Montgomery Blvd. NE, Suite 300, Albuquerque, NM 87111 French Mortuary 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE (505) 823-9400
