Obituary for LEIGH

Stuart R. Leigh, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, passed away January 28, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of 58 years; daughters, Pamela Leigh Nemec and husband, Chris of Austin, TX, Debbie Duran, husband, Tony and granddaughter, Aimee of Albuquerque; nieces and nephews. Mr. Leigh was born November 24, 1915 in Lake City, MI, son of Edith Henry and Walter Leigh. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Keith, Henry, and Gene; and sister, Claudia. Mr. Leigh received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Greenville College, Greenville, IL, and his graduate work was at Michigan State. He taught high school Biology and Chemistry and coached track in Napoleon, MI. Graduating as a Naval Cadet at Corpus Christi, TX, he transferred to the U.S. Marine Corps where he served two tours of duty with the South Pacific Air Transport (SCAT), flying gasoline, torpedoes, and ammunition into small islands like Guadalcanal. He received 4 DFCs, 13 air medals and commendations for his achievements against enemy forces in the Pacific, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. His second career was with TWA flying International and domestic flights. Admired by many, he will be remembered and deeply missed by his family. A special thank you to his caregivers, Cathy Cates and Will Coon. They enabled us to give loving care in his home for the last eight (8) years. Stuart was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and a member of Four Hills Country Club where he enjoyed golf with his friends. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 3, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Chaplain, Lt. Col. David Slaten officiating.
