Obituary for SMITH

Richard Cronan Smith (65), passed away of brain cancer on January 6, 2006. He was born June 22, 1940 in Keeseville, NY. Richard received his Bachelor's Degree from St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY; his Master's from Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL, and his PhD from the University of California Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA. He taught physics at Bernard M. Baruch College, New York, NY, and was employed at Hughes Aircraft Co, Los Angeles, CA and Albuquerque, NM and Lockheed-Martin Co, Albuquerque, NM and Sunnyville CA. Upon his retirement form Lockheed-Martin in 2003, Richard moved to Long Beach, CA to be near his family. He was a devoted and much loved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. He is greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Anne Bookstaber-Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Kernal Kazan; daughter and partner, Ivy Smith and Winona Phillabaum; mother, Serafina Charbonneau; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Cervando Canas; grandsons, Zekican and Aydin Kazan; nieces, Kathy Pearson and Susan Gregoires; his dogs, Feather and Happy. His father, Richard John Smith preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in Richard's name to be sent to UCLA Brian Cancer Research c/o Dr. Tim Cloughesy, MD 710 Westwood Plaza, S-suite 1-230.
