Obituary for TULL

John Thomas Tull Sr. a resident of Bosque Farms for over 51 years, passed away December 19, 2005, at Laurel Meadows Healthcare facility in Belen, NM after a long courageous battle against Parkinson's Disease. John was born July 17, 1918 in the "drylands" of southern Colorado near Las Animas, CO to John T. Tull and Mae A. (Larsen) (Tull) Thomas, who preceded him in death. Mr. Tull was also preceded in death by his wife, Nadine Y. (Kinder) Tull; step-father, Frank R. Thomas; sister, Bonnie M. Tull; brother, George W. Tull; and half-sister, Ada I. Stephens. John is survived by: son, Commander John T. Tull Jr. (USN, Ret.) and wife, Linda of Bosque Farms, NM; four sisters: Neta M. (Billee) Tull of Oklahoma City, OK, Vera Faucett of Longmont, CO, Helen Thomas of Denver, CO, and Lucille Baer of Las Animas, CO; and two grandchildren: Tamera Scorpio and husband, Jason of Fort Polk, LA and John T. Tull III and girlfriend, Miranda Groomes of San Diego, CA; and several nieces and nephews. John first came to Albuquerque in June 1941, after serving four years in the Navy on the battleship USS IDAHO (BB-42). He worked as a civil servant with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers when he came to Albuquerque and also joined the local Naval Reserve Unit to continue work as a Navy Lithographer/Printer. In August 1942, John was recalled to active duty for WWII service and was sent to San Diego, CA, where he served for three and one half years as an instructor for Navy Lithographers being assigned to operate print shops worldwide. He and Nadine returned to Albuquerque in February 1946. John returned to work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and they built a home in the North Valley. In May 1948 the Defense Atomic Support Agency, Nuclear Training Directorate, at what was then called Sandia Base (now Kirtland AFB) asked John to help them establish a new printing plant and he began work there. John had remained a Naval Reservist during this time and was recalled to active duty a second time for Korean War service in 1950. He and Nadine then spent the next two years on Kodiak Island, off Alaska, where he ran the base print shop. John and Nadine returned to Albuquerque in the summer of 1952, moved to Bosque Farms and resumed their jobs at Sandia Base. John continued his efforts in establishing and expanding the printing facility and was serving as Printing and Reproduction Foreman when he retired in May 1971 after 23 years. Cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service will be held in Palm Chapel at Strong-Thorne Mortuary on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that the memorial contributions be made to the organizations dedicated to conducting research and finding cures for Parkinson's Disease and Macular Degeneration.
