Obituary for RAMPUTI

Frederick Ronald Ramputi, Col. USAF (Ret.) age 88, a resident of Albuquerque for several years, passed away December 22, 2005. Col. Ramputi is survived by his wife of 63 years, Adaline Maxwell; his son, Daniel Maxwell; daughter-in-law, Yvette Heather; grand-daughters, Rachel Cecile and Amber Ramputi Wasco; great-granddaughter, Brittany Wasco; and great-grandson, Loren Allison. Col. Ramputi was born in Beacon, NY on June 5, 1917 and was raised on the family farm in Newburg, NY. He became a sports athlete and attained a football and track scholarship award to Purdue University that provided an avenue for him to gain both an education and his first love, flying. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the 11th Bombardment Wing in the Army Air Corps during the Aleutians Campaign and was awarded one of several Air Medals that would be bestowed later throughout his 30 year career. His first command as Base-Wing Commander was in Sidi Silmane in Morocco. He was Base Commander at McDill AFB, FL. And again became Wing Commander (SAC) at Altus AFB, OK. Under his command, the wing won the prestigious Fairchild Trophy which proved to be the very best in all of the Strategic Air Command. As a Colonel, he graduated from the National War College, in Washington DC. He was in Material Command at Barksdale AFB, LA but was given another Wing at K.I. Sawyer AFB, MI and retired from the Air Force at Wurtsmith AFB, MI. In his retirement, Col. Ramputi went to his roots in the family farm at Newburg, NY. He was a tireless worker and worked at the Petlinz Dairy. He was a member of the Optimist Club of Newburg and Meals-on-Wheels for many years, even planting many types of vegetables for their kitchens. Col. Ramputi moved West to Albuquerque and became an enthusiastic member of the "Hot Shot" bowling team. He was active in several Air Force Reunions. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday December 31, 2005, 1:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd., NE 275-3500
