Obituary for CORAZZA

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday December 27, 2005

Catherine Corazza, 90, born and raised in the coal-mining town of Dawson in northern New Mexico, died December 21, 2005. Preceding her in death were her husband, Mario Lee Corazza; a son, Patrick Corazza; and her parents, Matt and Anna Skender. Surviving are her son, Kenneth Corazza; two daughters, Carol Bass (husband, Clarence), and Cheryl Castonguay (husband, John); and two grandchildren, Matthew Bass and Renae Jocelyn Castonguay. She leaves two sisters, Mildred Skender and Mary Ann Brandolino; and two brothers, Mike Skender (wife, Jane), and Tony Skender; nieces and nephews. "Mrs. C", as customers affectionately called her, was co-owner of The Medicine Chest with her son Ken, and she continued to work until shortly before her death. Adapting and adjusting in admirable ways to the inevitable infirmities of age, she maintained her independence and sustained her contributions to her family and her business. She was a good cook, and particularly appreciated by her husband and acquaintances, a fine baker. At home she surrounded herself with the beauty of the flowers she grew and tended. Her life reflected her values (hard work, frugality, responsibility, and a belief in God), and she passed into the arms of her loving family as she had wished: quietly and gently. The family extends its deepest thanks to those who knew her for their many kindnesses during her short illness, and particularly to Dr. Matthew Rounseville for his warm stewardship. Visitation will take place at Fitzgerald & Son from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 followed by the recitation of the Rosary. Mass will take place at St. Therese of the Little Flower Church where she and Mario were among its earliest members (300 Mildred Ave. NW (344-8050), on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Father Scott Mansfield officiating. Internment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Bass, Victor Castillo, Germano Corazza, George Lucero, Dennis Pena, and Dr. Matthew Rounseville. Honorable Pallbearers will be Debbie Allison, Pat Birmingham, Dennis Brandolino, Jay Corazza, Julie Hunsaker, Don Leonard, Byrel "Shorty" Moore, and Norm Smith. Contributions may be made to a charity of choice should friends desire. Services are under the care and direction of: Fitzgerald & Son 3113 Carlisle Boulevard NE. 505-884-1188
