Obituary for CHERMAK

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday December 14, 2005

Helen Chermak, born Helga Marcovici on June 7, 1923 in Brandenburg, Germany passed peacefully on Wednesday, December 7, 2005. Helen's father Max was an entrepreneur who lost everything on Kristallnacht. Helen bravely faced great, daily uncertainty in her childhood and teenage years. She survived the war years as slave labor while the few members of her immediate family survived through the unheralded heroics of a small group of citizens of Rathenow, Germany, God bless their souls. Helen spoke several languages and after the war, she worked for a year in General Zhukov's office in Berlin as a translator. She later immigrated to the US where she enjoyed a private life and anonymity. Helen is survived by her three children, Linda and husband, Jim, Michael and wife, Sandy and Stephen. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Trey, Wendy, Camron, Krysten, and her sister, Vera. Mom, we are proud to be your children and are grateful for the life lessons you gave us. Say hello to Dad for us. A private ceremony was held. Shalom mutti, go in peace. French Mortuary 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE (505) 823-9400
