Obituary for HERMANN

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Monday December 12, 2005

Mary Ann Jackson Mary Ann Jackson was born to homesteaders Garvin Rawley Jackson and Mary Ruby Jackson in Floydada, TX, March 4, 1927. Her childhood was spent working and playing with brothers William "Bill" and Rawley on the family farm. After graduating from Floydada High School she attended college in Silver City, NM. She worked as a secretary at the State Capitol Building in Santa Fe, then Los Alamos, NM. While in Los Alamos this country girl met city boy, John Alexander Hermann from San Francisco, CA. They were married in September, 1949 in Santa Fe and began married life in Los Alamos. There they had three children, Marcia Ann, Margaret Elise, and Michael Leon. Ann dedicated her life to raising her children to be healthy and feel special. She started with breast-feeding her children, a practice contrary to the modern norms of the early 1950s. Always cultivating her children's dreams, she launched them into adventurous, happy, lives and was always there to help them through the rough times. She maintained many interests throughout her life including a love of animals, dancing, qi guong, hypnosis, water exercise, alternative medicine and nutrition. She had many friends because she was genuinely interested in their lives. Her special love was her only granddaughter, Emily Marie, daughter of Margaret. She died with dignity on December 8, 2005, in the warm, loving home of Michael and Kelly Hermann, her son and daughter-in-law. The family was able to care for her with the help of Vista Care Hospice Services. Special thanks to Ann, Celeste and Amy. Also, thanks to Gloria and Elmer who came to us from the Center for Psychological Services. Thanks to all the other family members and friends who gave support. Ann is survived by her husband, John Alexander Hermann; brother, Garvin Rawley Jackson Jr.; and children, Marcia Ann Hermann, Margaret Eilse Hermann, and Michael Leon Hermann; and granddaughter, Emily Marie Webster. Her wish was to be cremated and not to have a funeral service. The family has decided to celebrate her birthday with her friends and family. The location and time to be announced. Memorial gifts may be made to: Animal Humane Association of New Mexico. www.ahanm.org. They helped Ann rescue a mother dog with puppies. This dog, Xena, embodied the highest ideal of motherhood to Ann. Vista Care Foundation. (877) 478-4782. They made Ann's last days as comfortable as possible and meaningful.
