Obituary for SPERLING

Betty Sperling, age 85, died peacefully at her home with her daughters by her side on Wednesday November 30, 2005. She is survived by her daughters, Paula Sperling and Carol Sperling Barnitz, and Carol's husband, Reed; she is also survived by her brother, Bill Montgomery of Topeka, KS. She was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Jamie, on February 6, 1970 and by her husband, James E. Sperling, on February 3, 1991. Elizabeth Carrol Montgomery was born on February 11, 1920 to Paul and Pearl Montgomery in Topeka, KS. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1938 and from Washburn University in 1942. She married Jim on June 6, 1942 in San Antonio, TX, where Jim was a pilot and flight instructor in the Army Air Corps. Following World War II, they moved to Albuquerque where Jim formed a law practice with Jack Campbell. Jim joined the Modrall Law firm in 1946. Betty served as President of Junior League of Albuquerque, and served on the boards of the United Way and Chaparral Home and Adoption Services. She has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1947, singing in the choir and performing volunteer work. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, December 5, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque with Dr. Paul Debenport officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
