Dan "The Man" Gutierrez, 80, of Gallup, NM died Thursday, December 1, 2005 at RMCH in Gallup, NM. He was born January 4, 1925 in Gallup, NM. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was a veteran and served in the United States Navy during WWII and won numerous medals for action in the Pacific. He served for four years as McKinley County Clerk and retired in 1989 after 32 years as Clerk of the 11th Judicial Court for and within McKinley County. Gutierrez served nine years as Gallup City Councilman and ten years as McKinley County Council of Governments. He also served twenty years as the McKinley County Democratic Chairman. Gutierrez served seven years as President and Member of the New Mexico Association of County and City Employees in the early 50s. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, December 5, 2005 from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Rollie Mortuary Palm Chapel. A Rosary/Mass Service will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 beginning at 1:30 p.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Gallup. Father Lalo Espinosa will officiate. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Gallup, NM. A reception immediately following the Mass will be held at the Elks Lodge in Gallup, NM to celebrate the life of "Dan the Man." He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Gutierrez of Gallup; son, Lionel Gutierrez of Gallup; and son, Phillip "Pea Pot" and wife, Patty Gutierrez of Belen, NM; his favorite sister-in-law, Charlotte Esparza. He is also survived by five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vicenta Favela; son, Daniel Simon Albert Gutierrez; sister, Dubie Baca; brother, Albert Gutierrez; brother, Catarino Gutierrez; sister, Augustina Martinez; and brother, Simon Gutierrez. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the New Mexico Democratic Party - 1-202-863-8000. Pallbearers will be: Frank Colaianni, Dominic Ferrari, Rudy Garcia, Phillip Gutierrez, Sean Gutierrez, Marty Rodriguez, and Marty Rodriguez. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Pauline Acosta, Charlie Esparza, Emily Glass, Nicole Glass, Jackie Gomez, Brittany Gutierrez, Erin Gutierrez, Genayah Gutierrez, P.J. Gutierrez, Rhiannon Gutierrez, Ryan Gutierrez, Amanda Martinez, Deborah Martinez, Marissa Martinez, Benny Padilla, Jason Rael, John Rodriguez, Alexis Sams, Heather Sams, and J.J. Sams.
