Obituary for WACHERLE

JERRY WACHERLE, 75, of Los Alamos, NM died Monday, November 14, 2005 after a four-year battle with cancer. He grew up in Chetopa, KS, where his father managed a small natural gas company. He attended the University of Kansas where he achieved his Doctorates. Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Mavis Browning in 1949, and they moved to Los Alamos in 1956. Jerry worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory for thirty-five years retiring in 1993. Very active in the community, Jerry has been a member of Kiwanis for over thirty years including acting as President in 1977. He enjoyed camping and traveled to nearly all of the United States, Canada, and half of Mexico. They followed their Golden Wedding Anniversary with a month in New Zealand in a rented caravan. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis; parents, John and Esther Wackerle; his sister, Kaye Sinclair; his sons, Mark and Bruce; and a son-in-law, George Stroisch. He is survived by his daughter, Lise Smith, husband, Brian, and their son Alan, all of Nevada; by daughter, Merry Wood, husband, Chuck and their son, Casey, all of Florida; by daughter-in-law, Donna Wackerle and grandsons, Matthew and Joshua Wackerle, all of Texas; and by sister, Jayne Wackerle of Washington State; and brother-in-law, Gene Sinclair of Kansas. Jerry has been cremated. A small service will be held in the spring.
