Charles K. Glymph was a born in Pomaria, SC in 1922. He passed November 5, 2005 after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his sister Mrs. Sarah Wilcox of Alexandria, VA; his brother, Samuel Glymph of Newberry, SC; his son, Heyward Charles Glymph of Las Cruces; and his grandchildren, Sierra Glymph and Aaron Glymph, both of Las Cruces, NM. Charles K. Glymph served our country for 42 years, 23 years in the U.S. Army and 19 years in the Veteran's Administration in Albuquerque, NM. His military service included three tours of duty in Europe in World War II during which he took part in the invasion of Normandy on D-Day at Omaha Beach. He served a four year tour in Berlin, Germany during which he met his wife of 54 years, Hannelore Thiede Glymph, who passed away in Albuquerque on November 19, 2004. Following his duty in Germany, he served in Korea for two years and subsequently in the occupation of Japan in Tokyo. He finished his military career performing various assignments in the United States. During his years serving in the military, Charles K. Glymph was awarded the following commendations for service to his country: The Bronze Star-for extraordinary service in Europe during WWII, The Combat Infantry Badge- for duty in the European - African - Middle Eastern Theater, The Normandy Medal- Jubilee Medal of Liberty - awarded by the French Government, Meritorious Service Award - 1942-1945, American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, Medal of Occupation, Germany, with the Berlin Airlift Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal- awarded six times. Charles K. Glymph was a long time resident of Albuquerque, NM which he considered home. He passed while residing at the Village at Northrise and enjoyed his final months in the city of Las Cruces.
