Obituary for WHERRITT

Doris Davis Wherritt, age 85, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2005. She is survived by her loving daughter, Margaret E. Wherritt and partner of 17 years, Joanne Ericksen, of Rochester, MN. Her husband, Holman R. Wherritt, MD, and son, David Henry Wherritt preceded her in death, as well as one brother and two sisters. Survivors include: three sisters, Marjorie Moran and family, Francis Pearson and family, and Eleanor Ann Storm and family, all of Lacombe, LA; and one brother, Allen Davis and family, of Slidell, LA. Doris was born in Lacombe, LA, attended Slidell High School. She graduated from Louisiana State University in 1941 with honors, a member of Phi Beta Phi, Honorary Fraternity. She finished her internship and became a registered Medical Technologist (ASCP). In 1947 she married Holman and devoted her life as a caring and loving wife and mother. At the age of 15 she developed Type I diabetes, living 70 years with the disease. In spite of her chronic illness, she lived a long, productive and joyful life. Her family and friends loved her dearly. Doris was an associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Wichita, KS and lifetime member of the Girl Scouts and American Society for Clinical Pathology. She was giving to a fault and known for the cacti and wildflowers she cultivated. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in John XXIII Catholic Community officiated by Reverend Arkad Biczak on Thursday, November 10, 2005 at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the church 2 hours prior to the Service. A short Catholic Service will be conducted at the crypt. The family prefers memorials to go to Southeastern MN Center for Independent Living, National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Olmsted County, American Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice. French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd NW, is in charge of arrangements.
