Ida Eileen Baye, age 83, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, died Thursday, October 6, 2005 at the Albuquerque Regional Medical Center in Albuquerque. Ida Eileen McDaniel was born February 21, 1922 on the family farm outside of Philip, South Dakota to Lawrence and Virgie Mae (Craig) McDaniel. She attended Old Trail Country School and, later, graduated from Philip High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Alfred Baye, in 1942 in Neosho, Missouri. Alfred was in the United States Army for thirty years and Eileen moved and raised her five children in many different places - Philip, South Dakota; Fort Lee, Virginia; Sandia Base, New Mexico; Killeen Base, Texas; back to Sandia Base and then on to Geneva, New York and then overseas to Zweibrucken, Germany and Pirmasens, Germany, from Europe to Joliet, Illinois and back to Philip while Al was in Korea. Then on to Huntsville, Alabama and on to Naval Station, Guam and back to Sandia Base where they retired in Albuquerque in 1971. Eileen was an active member of Our Lady of the Sandias Chapel at Kirtland Air Force Base and enjoyed doing the genealogy of the McDaniel and Baye families with an emphasis on the great stories in history that surrounded each generation. She was an awesome homemaker and loved traveling and learning about everything she saw. She was recognized for her 25 years of contributions to the activities of the Albuquerque Chapter of the Retired Officers Association Chapter a portion of which included: President of Retired Officers Women's Club Women' s Club, 80-81; Team Kirtland Advisory Council, 81-87; recorder of deceased chapter members, 99-05. She is remembered as a woman of grace, dignity and wisdom. Grateful for having shared her life include her husband, Alfred Baye of Albuquerque; four children, Patricia Kaveney and her husband, Alan of Joliet, Illinois, David Baye and his wife, Margriet of Woodland Park, Colorado, Kathleen McCrohan and her husband, John of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Teresa Kelley of Glendale, Arizona; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert McDaniel of Philip; four sisters, Phyllis Hajek of Philip, Evelyn Kjerstad of Wall, Barbara Byrne and her husband, Larry of Sundance, Wyoming, and Dorothy Fortune and her husband, Bud of Cottonwood, South Dakota; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Charles Lee, six brothers, Howard, Fred, Harold, Frank, Kenneth and George and one sister, Gladys. Interment was held October 13, 2005 at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, South Dakota. A Memorial Service will be held 9:00, Saturday, November 12, 2005 at the Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Road, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
