Ethel L. (Wilson) Gallaher, 100, went to be with her Lord on September 23, 2005. She was born a simple farm girl in Woodbine, MD. The majority of her life was spent in Albuquerque, NM and Tampa, FL. Ethel was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Wilson; her second husband, Charles Gallaher; and oldest son, LTC Walter Wilson, Jr. She is survived by sons, Vernon Wilson and wife, Georgia of Baltimore, MD; Wayne Wilson and wife, Jan of Tampa, FL; Francie Rawlins of Albuquerque, NM; and 23 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Over the past eight years she resided at John Knox Village in Tampa, FL. Ethel often remarked that John Knox Village was one of the greatest periods in her life. She was a member of the Grounds Committee and the Rhythm Band. She had a small rose garden and served as a volunteer at JKV. As a devout Catholic, she was a Eucharistic minister, giving communion to those unable to attend mass in the chapel. Once you met her you would never forget her. Ethel had lived in Tampa 17 years prior to moving to Albuquerque. During that time she worked as a secretary while helping her first husband through the University of Tampa. In Albuquerque, she was referred to by a newspaper columnist as "Hurricane Ethel" because of her exuberant personality and zest for life. She worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Albuquerque until she was 73 years old. She was never one to hold back her feelings and opinions but always with good intentions and for the betterment of others. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday with a party attended by over 250 people. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, October 5, 2005, 7:00 p.m. at Chapel of Sunrise, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque. Graveside services will take place on Thursday, October 6, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd NE, Albuquerque. Memorial donations may be made in her name to John Knox Village Medical Center, 4100 East Fletcher, Tampa, FL, 33610.
