Fred Graham Laird died Monday evening at his home in Albuquerque. He was born December 6, 1919 in Grass Range, MT, to Fred and Emma Laird, who preceded him him in death, as did his brother, Ralph Laird. He is survived by his wife, Mary Dean Laird; his nephew, David Laird and wife, Nancy; his step-daughters, Mandy Vogel and her husband, Pat, and Marta Richards; and his step-grandchildren, Richard Massony and Matt and Max Vogel. Fred grew up in Moorehead, MN, and graduated from Concordia College. He served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict, having been awarded the Bronze Star and retiring with the rank of Major. He moved to Indianapolis, IN with his first wife, Catherine, who preceded him in death. There he was an attorney with Stokely Van Camp. After retirement from that company in 1983, he moved to Albuquerque, where he was active in the Tanoan Homeowner's Association and the Optimist Club. Fred was an avid player of golf and bridge. His outgoing personality and contagious smile won him a wide circle of friends. For those who might wish to send memorials, the family suggests the Optimist Club or Sandia Presbyterian Church. A Service in celebration of the life of Fred G. Laird will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Sandia Presbyterian Church with a private burial at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
