Obituary for YIRKA

Bernard H. Yirka, age 77, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2005. He was born in Pierre, SD, on Feb. 27, 1928 to a Bohemian immigrant father and Irish mother. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rosemary Yirka of the family home; his children: son, Patrick B. Yirka of Olympia, WA, daughters, Christine Sarti and husband, Richard of Tucson, AZ, Catherine Gulick of Gallup, and her children, Jennifer, Paul and Miranda, and Mary Margaret Baca, her husband, Charles T. of Adelino, and their children, Amanda McClanahan and husband Jarrod, Theresa, David and Emily. He is also survived by one sister, Therese Crow of Huntsville, AL, and brothers, Robert Yirka of Rapid City, SD, and Leo Yirka of Sun City, AZ, as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and his lifetime partner in outdoor adventures and misadventures, John Snowdon of Rio Rancho. He graduated from college in South Dakota, served in the US Navy during the Korean War, and later moved to Albuquerque, where he enjoyed a long career with State Farm Insurance. He retired in Bosque Farms, where he pursued his interests in hunting, fishing, and gardening. Rosary will be recited Monday, September 26, 2005, 7:00 p.m. at, French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel with Deacon Eddie reciting. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, September 27, 2005, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Peralta, NM with Father Albert Gallegos, pastor, and Father Robert, OSF, Concelebrant and assisted by Deacon Eddie. Interment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Whittington Center, P.O. Box 700, Raton, NM 87740, (505)445-3615.
