Obituary for NAKAOKA

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday September 04, 2005

Robert Takeshi Nakaoka died in his sleep on Friday, August 27, 2005. He was 77 years old and suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Robert was born in Delta, Colorado on July 28, 1928. The third son born to Tokiwa Naruto and Shozo Nakaoka, Robert spent his childhood years in Delta, Colorado helping on his parent's farm and attending public school where he excelled in sports. After two years in the US Navy, Robert went to the University of Colorado where he obtained a degree in Geology and met and married his wife of 50 years, Janis Conklin Nakaoka. The couple moved from Colorado to New Mexico, where they resided for the next forty years, raising their children and enjoying the friendship of many great people. Other than his wife and family, Robert had two passions in his adult life: rocks, and golf. Robert is survived by his three adult children, Ron, Tami, and Lori Nakaoka; by his five grandchildren; and by his older brother William Nakaoka. Robert's wife, Jan Nakaoka, passed earlier this year from cancer. Robert was a kind man with a mischievous sense of humor. Eternally optimistic, Robert overcame many hurdles to achieve a successful and fulfilling life as a husband, father and businessman. His humor and wisdom will be sorely missed by everyone who loved him. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
