Obituary for DORRANCE

Alfred A. Dorrance, age 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1966, a retiree from UMN Physical Plant went to be with the Lord after a short illness at the VA Hospital, Sunday, August 21, 2005. Alfred was born in Cimarron, NM in 1919, served in the U.S. Army in the 157th Infantry, 45th Division and took part in several invasions, Sicily, Foggia, Anzio and Rambersville until his capture in 1945. Alfred has many commendations for his valor to name a few, The Silver Star, Bronze Star, POW Medal, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Man Badge, Army of Occupation Medal, European-African Middle Eastern campaign and the Purple Heart Medal was pending. Alfred was wounded at the time of capture and since he was treated by German doctors no records were found. He was a member of the Albuquerque Chapter of the American EX POW's. Alfred was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary in 2002. He is survived by his daughter, Dolores Gammon and husband, Edward; grandson, Eric Gammon and wife, Sherry and their son, Tim; sister, Annie Zamora and husband, Larry of Raton; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great- nephews. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Pl. SE. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Phil Sanchez, Todd Sanchez, Trace Sanchez, Gregg Pena, Larry Zamora and Albert Zamora. Honorary pallbearers will be Kori Sanchez and Richard Dorrance. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, Wednesday, 6:00 p.m. to Rosary.
