Carlton W. 91, Brownwood, TX, died Thursday, August 11, 2005, after a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00, Monday, August 15, 2005, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home in Brownwood, TX. The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday night. Burial services will be held Monday, August 15, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Throckmorton Cemetery, Throckmorton, TX. Carlton King was born on June 28, 1914 in Throckmorton, TX, the son of the late Clarence and Willie "Mausie" King of Throckmorton, TX. He served with distinction in the United States Army during World War II in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. He married Lorraine Johnson on June 6, 1948 in Denver, CO, where bother were students at the Denver Bible College. He attended Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, TX, for three years. He and his wife then moved to New Mexico and served as missionaires throughout the state. They later settles in Albuquerque, NM, where they raised three daughters. After Lorraine's death in 1988, Carlton returned to Texas and resided in Brownwood for the past 14 years. Carlton worked for twenty years at Creamland Dairies in Albuquerque, NM. He is best known as a published writer and poet. He wrote extensively about his childhood in Texas and his service in the Army. He earned a masters degree in literature from the University of New Mexico. Until his final few weeks he lived alone and enjoyed time with his family, good health, good literature, long walks, and animals. He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church in Brownwood. Throughout his life maintained a deep and abiding faith and trust in the Lord. He will be warmly remembered for his humility, his humor and his generosity. Because of Carlton's lifelong of love for animals of all descriptions, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the Humane Society. Survivors include daughters, Jo King of San Diego, CA, Barbara King of Albuquerque, NM, and Jan Bradley of Gibsonville, NC; sister Willa Beth Johansen of Brownwood; grandchildren, Lorrie Bradley of Carrboro, NC and Paul Bradley of Greensboro, NC; and nieces, nephews and cousins in Texas and Louisiana. Davis-Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
