Obituary for GABALDON

Pauline Gabaldon, born August 11, 1926 in Albuquerque, NM passed away late Thursday August 11, 2005 on her 79 birthday, in Albuquerque supported by her loving family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Floren (Gabby) Gabaldon; son, Charles (Chuck) Perea and wife, Corliss; granddaughter, Tanya Perea-Walker and husband, Rob Walker; grandson, Christopher Perea; stepdaughters, Belinda Prehn and husband, Mark, and Karen Gabaldon and husband, Jeff Solon; seven great grandchildren, Candice, Matthew, Jacob, Jeremiah, Adam, Joel, and Alexandra; two brothers, Archie Sanchez and wife, Rita, Deceased, and Richard Sanchez and wife, Francis; four sisters, Suzie Baca and husband, Herman, Deceased, Becky Chavez and husband, Joe, Olivia Castillo and husband, Martin, Deceased, and Ramona Anaya and husband, Miramon; as well as many nieces and nephews. Pauline was a devoted wife, mother, and nana who always gave of herself. She graciously volunteered her time for relief efforts following the earthquakes in Guatemala in 1976 and was a Peace Corps volunteer along with her husband Gabby in Jamaica from 1979 to 1982. She enjoyed traveling in her motor homes all across the country and particularly loved going to Las Vegas. Pauline also possessed a love of baking and cooking that began at an early age when she worked in her family's bakery. She loved cooking for her family and friends and always had her legendary homemade beans, chili and tortillas ready for anyone who would drop by. In addition Pauline truly had a "green thumb" and her lavish gardens and flowers were a magnificent reflection of the sweet, beautiful woman she was. Pauline also always took care of any family member or friend who took ill and gave endlessly and selflessly of her time to those in need. A Rosary Service will be recited at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Sunday August 14, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Father Eggert officiating on Tuesday August 16, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. Internment of remains will immediately follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice and Jennifer, Martha, Lawanda, Stacy, Tim, Don and Dr. Metzger from the CCC unit at Presbyterian Hospital for the gentle and loving care they gave "Nana" in her final days.
