Obituary for CHAVEZ

Ernest T. Chavez passed away at home August 6, 2005. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Hortencia; his daughters, Ana and her husband, Rich and Tina and her husband, Charles; six grandchildren; his sisters Dora, Daisy, Patsy, and Ramey; his brothers, Harry and Nick; and extended family. Ernest was born November 11, 1924 to Irene Sedillo and Alejandro Chavez. He served in WWII with the US Army Corps of Engineers. In 1955 he was paralyzed in an automobile accident. After his injury, he became involved with the Paralyzed Veterans of America. He began as a volunteer and retired in 1996 as a National Service Director. Ernest dedicated his career to helping disabled veterans. In addition to working with the PVA, Ernest also served on several local and federal level committees to further disabled veterans' issues. He was instrumental in the opening of the Spinal Cord Injury Center in Albuquerque. His hard work and dedication earned the respect of all those who knew him and worked with him. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, August 10, 2005, 9:30 a.m. also at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
