Obituary for DARLING

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday August 07, 2005

Sara Margaret "Peg" Darling, 105, resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, joined the Lord and her beloved husband, Lewis Wesley Darling, on June 3, 2005. She was born on October 10, 1899, in Astoria, Long Island, New York, to Italian immigrants, Francis Paul and Theresa Mariani Curcio. She is survived by her nieces, Helen Werner (St. Louis, Missouri) and Peggy Mitchell (Palos Verdes, California). Peg quit school temporarily at the age of nine to care for her one, three, and five year old siblings when her mother died. She loved and cared for other children as her "second" job throughout her career in various clerical/administrative jobs. She traveled abroad extensively. Peg prayed faithfully and was blessed by excellent health and a sharp mind well beyond her century mark. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ralphael, Rosemary, Alfred, and Florence. Peg was interred with Lewis (who died in 1934 from his WWI injuries) on June 15 at the National Veterans Cemetery in Los Angeles, California. A Memorial Service will be held in Albuquerque on August 13 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark's-on-the-Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Place, NE. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a children's charity or to a memorial fund at St. Mark's Church.
