Obituary for LEACH

Howard Charles Leach, Jr., 80, died July 30, 2005 from complications following an auto accident. Howard was born April 11, 1925 in Redwood City, CA. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janice Davison Leach of the family home in San Antonio, NM; one brother, Joel Oliver Leach and wife, Arlene of Sacramento, CA; children: Kenneth C. Leach and wife, Hazel Tull-Leach; Donald B. Leach and wife, Janice F. Leach; Michael D. Leach and wife, Margaret M. Leach; grandchildren, Jeremiah C. Duff Leach, wife Delia, and great-grandson, Christian A. Anaya-Leach, Emily J. Leach, Matthew H. Leach, Kristina A. Leach Martinez and husband, Daniel, Gregory F. Leach, Charles P. Leach, and Thomas M. Leach. Howard grew up in Berkeley, CA, served his country in World War II, graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, married in 1948 and moved to Whittier, CA where his three sons were born. Howard began his employment career in corrections as a probation and parole officer in Los Angeles, CA. The family moved to Albuquerque in 1962 when he took a job with the President's National Council on Crime and Delinquency. In 1970, Howard was appointed Secretary of Corrections for the State of New Mexico and served during the administrations of governors David Cargo, Bruce King, and Jerry Apodaca. In 1976, he left the NM Department of Corrections to begin a career in industrial real estate. In 1980, Howard and his son Michael started their industrial real estate company, Sycamore Associates. He retired in 1995 and moved to San Antonio, NM to enjoy a rural lifestyle as a gentleman apple farmer. He enjoyed working on his cabin in Platoro, CO. Howard was a man of deep spiritual commitment and great integrity. His love of the Lord, his family, and fellow man, was demonstrated daily throughout his life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 11:00 a.m., at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, 1801 Montano Rd., NW, Albuquerque, NM, 344-9798.
