Rafael (Ralph) Garcia, age 96, a resident of Albuquerque since 1953, and a former resident of Clayton, NM, passed away on July 12, 2005. Mr. Garcia was born September 28, 1909 in Trinidad, CO. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas F. Garcia; parents, Cipriano and Ruperta (Lopez) Garcia; sister, Maria Valdez; brothers, Cipriano, Juan, Monico, Felix, Felix P., and J. Frank Garcia. Rafael is survived by his wife of 72 years, Eva Marie (Elkins) Garcia; daughters, Louise Vigil and husband Dick of Albuquerque, Ruby Valdez and husband John of San Bruno, CA; sons, Bobby J. Garcia and wife Belinda of Albuquerque, Michael F. Garcia and wife Tommie of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Linda M. Gonzales and husband David, Larry A. Pena and wife Carole, Michael F. Garcia Jr., Steven W. Garcia and wife Jerriann, Luther S. Garcia, Robin E. Garcia; great-grandchildren, Bernadette Gonzales, David Gonzales and wife Lorraine, Michael F. Garcia III, Katarina Dawn Marie Garcia, Caesar Garcia, Jake Ryan Garcia and Madison Marie Garcia, Jeffrey, Claire and Elise Pena; great-great-grandsons, C.J., Domonik Gonzales; sister-in-law, Sara Garcia; and many nieces and nephews. Rafael retired from the University of New Mexico in 1974, he used to say, "I went out with Nixon." Rafael enjoyed all sports and working on his flower garden. A special thank you to Maria Melaro, Veronica Espinosa, Marie Gonzales, Maribel Astorga, Bernadette Gonzales, Jerri Anderson, Jan Snow, Josie Ferguson, and all The Presbyterian Hospice staff, for their wonderful care. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 16, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. in Gate of Heaven Mausoleum Chapel, 7999 Wyoming NE, with Father Mike Cimino, Celebrant.
