Obituary for REED

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday July 08, 2005

Bruce E. Reed, 58, died at home Wednesday, July 6, 2005 surrounded by family after a courageous, 20-month battle with pancreatic cancer. A memorial celebration of his life will be planned at a later time. Bruce graduated from Albuquerque Academy and obtained his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from New Mexico State University. He worked as a project engineer in Denver and Odessa, TX, before moving to Gallup, NM where he worked at the Giant refinery for 18 years. He became a consulting engineer and moved to the north valley of Albuquerque in 1999. Bruce enjoyed restoring and racing Porsches and other interesting cars, brewing beer, studying history, exploring nature and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, June; daughters, Heather McClenahan and husband Bob of Los Alamos, and Erica Kerns and husband Chris of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Emily, Collin and Kathryn McClenahan and Avis and Daymon Kerns; and three special nephews Ken, Scott and Andrew Reed and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Avis Reed and brother, Douglas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bruce's honor to the American Cancer Society, the National Rifle Association, the Albuquerque Baroque Players or Ducks Unlimited.
